A lonely bingo night turned into a purr-fect surprise!
Cat Chat Issue #11
Martha learned to type on a manual typewriter. She worked at a busy real estate office during the booming eighties and raised her family. After her husband Edward passed, life changed a lot for her. Her kids had kids, and she loved her grandbabies with all her heart.
Nowadays her weekly outing was her bingo night at the church. It was more than just a game; it was a chance to connect with her community. But lately, the nights felt a bit lonelier. Her friends had started to move away or couldn't make it due to health reasons.
One particular bingo night, Martha noticed a smiling face among the regulars. It was a young woman named Sarah, who hosted the game. After the final round, Sarah approached Martha with a hesitant look. "Grandma Martha," she began, "I have something I think you might like."
Sarah held out a small, cardboard box. Peeking inside, Martha saw a tiny, ginger kitten with big, emerald green eyes. But something was off. The kitten's fur was patchy and seemed to be irritated.
"He's got a skin rash," Sarah explained. "The shelter couldn't take care of him, and I didn't have room for another pet. I thought maybe you'd be willing to give him a temporary home?"
Martha's heart melted. She'd always wanted a cat but had been hesitant to take on the responsibility. But looking at the kitten's vulnerable eyes, she couldn't say no. She gently scooped the kitten up and held him close.
As Martha walked home with her new furry friend, she couldn't help but smile. Her lonely bingo nights were about to become a whole lot more purr-fect. “What am I going to call you?” she wondered aloud.
And that’s how Martha and Tangerine became instant best friends.
Here's a fun fact about Siamese cats:
Siamese cats are actually born completely white!
Their distinctive markings, like their dark points on their faces, ears, paws, and tails, develop over the first few weeks of life due to a temperature-sensitive gene.
