Meet Mark Twain's Purrfect Companion

Cat Chat Issue #5

Meet “Sawyer”

Meet Mark Twain's Purrfect Companion

Once upon a time famous American author Mark Twain found himself lonely late in life.  A cantankerous gentleman, Twain knew something was missing.

That's right! In his later years, Twain found himself living alone, his house feeling a bit too quiet for his liking. To chase away the loneliness, he decided to adopt a furry friend.

Enter Sawyer! This stray cat, with a spirit as mischievous as Tom Sawyer himself, quickly stole Twain's heart.

Maybe it was those big, curious green eyes, or the way Sawyer kneaded on Twain's writing desk while the author crafted his stories. Sawyer quickly became inseparable from the man once known as Sam Clemens.

Twain wrote frequently to his penpal in Paris, France.  He remarked, “Who knew such a ball of fur could enchant me so?”

Possibly Sawyer even inspired some future adventures for Twain's characters or his own life? One thing's for sure, Twain and Sawyer were the purrfect pair.

Even the greatest minds need a little companionship sometimes. And what better companion than a cuddly cat?

CAT CARE TIP OF THE WEEK- “My boyfriend and I have been feeding a stray cat for a couple of weeks.  What should we know before we adopt it and take it inside?”

  1. Check for a Missing Fluffy Friend First: Before welcoming a stray into your home, it's crucial to see if they already have a loving family missing them. Scan for a microchip at a vet or local shelter, and put up "found cat" posters to ensure you're not accidentally separating a pet from their humans.

  2. Health Exam and Checkup is a Must: Stray cats may have been exposed to illnesses or parasites. Schedule a vet visit for a checkup, vaccinations, and any necessary treatments. A healthy kitty means a happy home for everyone!

  3. Kitten Kindergarten or Cat Condo? Consider your family's lifestyle. Young children might do better with a playful, socialised cat, while a quieter home would suit a more timid stray. Discuss with the family what kind of feline friend best fits your dynamic.

  4. Prepare For Chaos:you will need to shop online for a cat bed, a litterbox, litter, food, a scooping spoon, cleaning products and cat treats. Adopting a street cat is a commitment that will fill your heart with joy.

Remember, patience and a positive approach are key to a successful adoption of a street cat. If you have any concerns or persistent elimination problems, consult your veterinarian.
