Once upon a time my sweet mother worked as an Administrator in a nursing home. One of the residents named Mabel was a 94-year old firecracker. She loved her cat, daily bingo, and being the “reader”.
What’s a “reader”? In their facility my mother would print out jokes off the internet for Mabel to read to the group before the bingo. Imagine a tiny lady born in 1913 telling jokes and cracking up the entire staff, residents and admins!
Whenever family would visit the residents one of the most popular activities was coloring. My mother would print off pages for the grandkids and adults to decorate together. Their breakroom was a beautiful array of colorful whimsy.
Here we are 20 years later, and I honor the memory of Mabel and my mother freely sharing humor with anyone that would listen and the gift of art and creativity.
